Wash Pipe Debris Trap*
The Washpipe Debris Trap (WPDT) is a simple and reliable downhole system check that seamlessly integrates into service tool systems for cased‐hole or open‐hole gravel‐pack and frac‐pack operations.
The WPDT tool consists of an upper and a lower screen system that work in tandem when installed in the washpipe assembly of sand control tools. In the event of a breach of the sand control screens, the fluid and proppantwill be able to pass through the lower ball check and screen system but the proppant will not be capable of passing through the upper screen, thus, becoming trapped between the two screen systems.
When retrieving the sand control service tool at the surface, the WPDT lower screen system allows fluid to drain while transporting proppant to the surface to minimize remediation risk. It is at this point during the operation that a visual confirmation identifies the existence of a breach in the sand control system or the occurrence of another anomaly.
The WPDT is beneficial to the operator by warning that the well may fail (infant mortality). If the crossover weldmant fails during the frac job, the top screen system will also prevent proppant from entering the washpipe screen annulus.
This provides
Post frac analysis of tool and screen performance.
Prevention of stuck washpipe. • An indication of plugging off to react real time by altering job.
An obstacle to prevent proppant and debris from being circulated across service tool ball checks and above packers.
An allowance for the washpipe ID to fill if a breach develops in the screen. Only proppant inside washpipe will dehydrate, helping the tool to pull free.
Assistance with identifying loss of sump integrity or communication from squeeze perforations behind pipe.
Features
Compatible with washpipe gauges, logging tools.
Customizable upper and lower system screen gauges.
Seamless integration with current sand control technology.
Customizable space out options.
